Iceland day 3

We woke up in skaftafell national park and started hiking right away. Mark brought all his camera equipment so that he would be able to photograph the waterfall at the end. 

Svartifoss waterfall. This is definitely my favorite waterfall so far (and Iceland has a lot of waterfalls, so this is saying a lot). 

I just loved the combinations of colors and textures.

As we were driving away from the national park, we could see the giant glacier that covers a huge portion of Iceland sticking out between the mountains, so we drove off toward it. The glacier is called Vatnajokilbjodgardur. It was quite epic. 

Just outside of the glacier was this field of purple flowers. Iceland's scenery changes quickly, which makes for a beautiful road trip. 

We pulled over to check out a glacier lagoon and Mark spotted this tiny patch if flowers. He then chose that moment to start practicing wedding photography. Haha. 

We visited several glacier lagoons today and this was the second one (Fjallsarlon). It was pretty until we saw the third one to compare it to. 

This is the third one we saw. It is called Jokulsarlon. The blue tint of the ice was amazing to see in person as the water was much less murky than the other one. 

Even prettier though was the beach near the lagoon. I've chunks broke off from the lagoon and floated down to the ocean where they were deposited on the beach to slowly melt away. 

We continued our drive around the ring road as passed tons of sheep. 

We stopped briefly in a town called Hofn, where Mark found a geocache. 

And I found some ducklings. 

And the continued our drive toward east Iceland. 

Eastern Iceland was beautiful to drive through because of its fjords.

We camped in a small town called Djupivogur. 

Mark took us to the top if a nearby hill in search of a geocache where we found this sundial. 

We had noodles and crackers with Brie cheese for dinner.
